Determinants of High-tech Exports: New Evidence from OECD Countries

Abstract High export capacity is a key element for sustained long-term economic growth. To achieve this goal, the technological sophistication of exports plays role. enhance with high level sophistication, it critical to target drivers high-tech exports. Hence, article studies determinants international trade flows manufactures according their content in case OECD countries. Given panel 35 countries and 15 years (2004 2018), data estimation techniques are used analysis. In addition, two alternative measures have been considered measure importance high-technology manufacturing exports: High-tech as share total employment. Results obtained show strong evidence relevance variables such gross fixed capital formation on employment, land area per capita, percentage university graduates relative population group, R&D expenditure terms GDP, stock inward foreign direct investment imports quality national governance regulation, country EU membership technology-intensive Moreover, findings significant implications industrial policies countries, ensure effectiveness targeting upgrading
